Product description

FormFutura MetalFil Classic Copper PLA Filament is a revolutionary composite filament designed for 3D printing enthusiasts and professionals alike. With an impressive 80% copper powder content, this filament allows you to create stunning 3D printed objects that closely resemble genuine copper-casted items. Whether you're working on artistic projects, figurines, or miniatures, MetalFil Classic Copper provides the perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality.

Unique Features of MetalFil Classic Copper

The standout feature of this filament is its high copper-filling, which gives your prints a real copper look and feel. The density of 3.4 g/cc makes it approximately 300% heavier than standard PLA, providing a substantial and authentic experience. This filament is compatible with a variety of hotends, including full metal, PEEK, and PFTE, making it versatile for different 3D printers.

MetalFil Classic Copper is designed for ease of use, compatible with both direct drive and Bowden style extruders. It works seamlessly with hardened nozzles of 0.4mm or larger, ensuring that you can achieve optimal results without hassle. The filament is also easy to post-process, allowing you to brush, sand, polish, wax, coat, and apply patina effects to your prints.

Applications of MetalFil Classic Copper

This filament is perfect for a wide range of applications, particularly in aesthetics, design, and art. Whether you're creating intricate figurines, detailed miniatures, or unique decorative pieces, MetalFil Classic Copper will elevate your projects to new heights. The ability to achieve various patina effects adds an extra layer of creativity, allowing you to customize your prints to match your vision.

General Printing Guidelines

To achieve the best results with MetalFil Classic Copper, it's essential to follow some general printing guidelines. The recommended nozzle size is ≥ 0.4mm, and a layer height of ≥ 0.2mm is ideal. The print temperature should be maintained between 215 - 235°C, with a fan speed of 50-100%. A heat bed temperature of 0 - 60°C is also recommended, and no enclosure is needed for printing.

These settings are meant as a guideline, and users are encouraged to experiment to find the optimal settings for their specific printer. If you notice blobs or lumps forming around the nozzle, it may indicate that your print temperature is too high.

Post-Processing Techniques

One of the most exciting aspects of using MetalFil Classic Copper is the variety of post-processing techniques available. After printing, you can easily brush or sand your objects to reveal the high concentration of copper powders, enhancing the metallic appearance. The built-in white polish feature allows for a beautiful finish, transforming your prints into stunning copper-like objects.

For a professional touch, consider using a rotary tumbler for polishing. This method can make your 3D printed objects indistinguishable from genuine copper castings. Additionally, you can create various patina effects using ammonia and soda treatments, giving your prints an aged look in just one day.

Waxing and coating your printed objects can further enhance their shine and protect the surface. Products like beeswax for waxing and XTC-3D for coating can provide an incredible finish.

Filament Specifications

MetalFil Classic Copper is available in different spool sizes, including 50g, 0.75kg, and 1.5kg. The filament diameter is 1.75mm, with approximately 6.1m of filament in a 50g coil, 92m in a 0.75kg spool, and 183m in a 1.5kg spool. For 2.85mm diameter, the lengths are approximately 2.3m, 35m, and 69m for the respective spool sizes.

Maintenance and Compliance

When using MetalFil filaments, it's crucial to maintain your nozzle to prevent clogging. After printing, feed 15-20cm of PLA filament through the nozzle to clear any residual metal powders. It's advisable to use stainless steel or hardened alloy nozzles due to the abrasive nature of the metal powders.

This filament complies with the RoHS directive 2011/65/EC and the REACH directive 1907/2006/EC, ensuring that it meets safety and environmental standards.
